where to shop out east, aka THE HAMPTONSSS
A friend from the West Coast is heading to The Hamptons for the summer and asked for some food shopping recommendations. I made a small list of places to check out whether you’re visiting for a quick trip or starting your “summer home” season.
Admittedly, YES, I shop at Citarella and Whole Foods when I’m out there, but only for the hardware (garlic, onions, celery, etc.)—I promise.
For other produce and artisanal goods, East Hampton has a selection of vibrant markets that encompass the region's sophisticated yet laid-back charm. These are my favorites:
The Seafood Shop: You can find it before reaching East Hampton in Wainscott, NY–it’s well worth a visit. The Seafood Shop is a Hamptons staple that only serves fresh line-caught fish from off the North and South fork of Long Island.
East Hampton Farmers Market: A hub of local flavor where artisans and small farmers showcase their freshest produce, artisanal cheeses, and handcrafted goods. Make sure to check out Mecox Bay Dairy and Wefsnoske Farms.
The Amagansett Farmers Market: This market is another gem if you’re in the mood for baked goods, bomb seafood, and beautiful (almost too-sexy-to-eat) produce. The produce is harvested from the Amber Waves Farm just behind the market, it can’t get more fresh than that!
Local Produce Stands: If you’re driving down Route 58 or 27 and you find a small house or stand with a sign that says “Fresh Produce,” I urge you to pull off and see what the local grower offers. You never know what you’ll find, and there’s nothing like supporting a small farmer directly. A few of these farm stands include Iacano Farm, Share the Harvest, North Sea Farm, and Truxel Farm.
It won’t be long before I’m back out East myself—interested in booking a dinner? Hit me up here. Consider this item checked off my prep list.
